THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS OF MASSAGE THERAPY .

STRESS RELIEF

Stress is an attributing factor to muscle soreness, but massage helps to relax muscles and reduce pain. By using specific techniques, the Massage Therapist can remove tension from the muscles and increase flexibility. Increased blood flow facilitated by massage also delivers oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, which leads to a reduction in pain, inflammation, and stiffness.

REJUVENATION

Following a massage session, most clients report feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. This feeling is attributed to the release of dopamine and serotonin during the massage. These hormones are responsible for happiness and feelings of overall well-being. Studies show that during the massage, activity in the right hemisphere of the brain, which is more active when a person is depressed, is decreased. Conversely, activity in the left hemisphere of the brain is increased. This area of the brain is most active when people are happy, and relaxation massage helps to kick that into high gear.

BOOSTING THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

Massage can boost the immune system by reducing the amount of cortisol; also known as the stress hormone, released in the body. Elevated levels of cortisol are a culprit of weight gain. This hormone attacks the body’s immune system that helps to kill off bacteria and viruses, but massage decreases cortisol and therefore improves the functioning of the immune system.
